Student Work Permits
Student Work Permits – Important Process Change
Effective October 2, 2026, Michigan has transitioned to a new statewide online system for student work permits.
Students under the age of 18 who need a work permit must now complete the process through the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP), managed by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO).
What does this mean for students and families?
Work permits are no longer issued through WIHI/WIMA or local school districts.
Students and families will complete the work permit process online through YEPP.
Employers must also register through the new system.
