March 18th Update
Dear WIHI and WIMA students, and families,
While the public school districts in Washtenaw County are closed due to CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) until April 6, schools may provide optional learning opportunities and resources for students and families to access learning.
As a school community, our main priority is student safety and learning. Our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure all students have internet access, 1 to 1 technology, Google classroom access, and academic, social, and emotional support. Our Student Support Team is also reaching out to students to offer social, emotional, academic, and mental health support throughout the closure. We also realize that not all students may be able to access the learning based on individual and family circumstances. If your child requires additional support, please contact an SST member for accommodations and support.
During the next two weeks of learning (through March 27th), all teachers will continue to offer learning opportunities aligned with the IB curriculum for students to complete as they are able. 12th grade teachers will update Google Classroom with details about IB DP preparation. As always, we will accommodate for students who may not be able to complete the work due to personal circumstances. The work students complete is important and will contribute to their preparation for IB assessments, however it will not be graded and will not contribute to their overall grade. This is a county-wide practice focused on equity in education during the school closure. All grading, including 3rd quarter grades, will be delayed until we receive further guidance from the Michigan Department of Education.
Please review the updated Remote Learning Plan here and continue to be patient, flexible, and accommodating (students and staff) as we navigate this new remote learning plan together and let Teachers and Student Support Team members know what questions you may have and support you may need during the school closure.
We will continue to update you as we learn more about the school closure and anticipate updates at the state level in the next few weeks as we all learn more about the rapidly changing national public health crisis.
Please continue to follow CDC recommendations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We all play an important role in mitigating this pandemic to save lives.
Sincerely,
Ms. Do

CDC COVID-19 Prevention
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Information from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is available in English, Chinese, and Spanish.
Clean your hands often. Scrub with soap for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer if you cannot wash.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care. Call ahead before going to your healthcare provider. Learn what to do if you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Immediately wash your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces.
Older adults and people who have severe underlying chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
View additional prevention steps from CDC for people at higher risk.
Consult with your health care provider for more steps you may be able to take to protect yourself.
REMEMBER: Discrimination harms public health. People of Asian descent, including Chinese Americans, are not more likely to get coronavirus than anyone else.
