I’m a graduate of  Huntington University with a B.S. in Social Studies Secondary Education and minors in teaching theater, radio, television, and speech.  In 2010, I received my M.Ed. from Indiana Wesleyan University.  I started teaching high school in Chicago, and since then, I have taught grades 5-12 on three different continents.  My wife and I started overseas teaching at Khartoum American School in Sudan, and we later moved to Russia where we taught at the Anglo American School of Moscow.  In that time we’ve had the amazing opportunity to visit over 30 countries, and these experiences changed our outlook on the world.  The mission of WIHI to approach learning from a truly international perspective inspires me, and I am so glad to be working at this school.
My wonderful wife and I were blessed with a beautiful son, born in the fall of 2012.  I enjoy the outdoors and have recently started participating in activities with a “–thon” at the end, including a marathon and several triathlons.

I am a life-long Michigander, growing up in the Metro-Detroit area. I have lived all over the state, earning degrees from Oakland University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan. I currently teach DP Economics, 10th Grade Economics, and 9th Grade World Studies. Along with Mr. Basler, I serve as faculty sponsor for the Yearbook Club, and I also sponsor the WIHI Business Club. I live in Canton with my girlfriend, Sara, our dog Phoebe, and our cat Bubastis. In my spare time I love sports, board games, video games, and reading. I am overjoyed to be working at WIHI with all the wonderful students here and I look forward to the years to come!

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Law and Government from Eastern Michigan. I received my teacher secondary teacher certification in Secondary English and Social Studies Education from Wayne State University. Before joining the staff at WIHA/WIMA I taught Social Studies at the Michigan Islamic Institute for two years. After that I was a Reading Interventionist for New Paradigm for Education. I believe that education can open up opportunities to students. My philosophy on education is that it needs to challenge students to think, solve problems, and prepare students for their journey after school. I spend my time with my wife and young son as well as reading, watching movies, playing video games, and running.

After several years outside of the Michigan mitten, I am excited to be back in my hometown and teaching at WIHI. I graduated from Swarthmore College, conducted educational research in Philadelphia for a year, and taught middle school history, geography, and English at an international school in Shanghai, China. In addition to teaching World Studies at WIHI, I'm also teaching American Studies for WIMA and acting as the Freshman Class Dean and the faculty sponsor for the Diversity Alliance and Bluebird NK at WIHI. I finished my Masters degree at the University of Michigan in the spring of 2014, and I love cooking, napping, and watching Michigan sports.

I earned a full Merit Scholarship to Wayne State University, where I achieved my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, with a major in mathematics. I returned to Wayne State to earn my Masters in Education in curriculum, when I began teaching in Ypsilanti in 1995. My past teaching experiences have been in grades 3-8 in Ypsilanti. I began in Willow Run Community Schools, and continued when it merged with Ypsilanti Community Schools; and stayed with WIMA when WEOC took leadership over the school. Some of my Education Points of Pride are: Learning First Technology Second The Educator’s Guide to Designing Authentic Lessons, by Liz Kolb, features my Road Trip Unit Plan (Case Study #8), I contributed to an article published in The Atlantic-Undercover Teachers or Imaginary Friends?, Michigan Design Challenge Award-Facilitator of Top Design Student (2019, 2018, 2017), Verizon Innovative Learning Best in State- Facilitator of Best in State App Challenge, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow- Facilitator of State Finalist, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Certification- Phase I and Phase II Authoring for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Items. I educate my students by creating a student-centered, inquiry based learning environment; and by facilitating a class culture that is conducive to learning for all. I thoroughly believe in holistically preparing our students for the global society in which we live. My daughter is the light of my life. We reside in Taylor and enjoy spending our time with family and friends.

I received my bachelors degree in history from Williams College and my masters in urban education from the University of Pennsylvania In the past, I was a teacher for three years at a project based learning school in Philadelphia. Teaching is actually my second career, in a past life I worked as a financial consultant in Chicago. I strongly believe that students will only learn when they feel recognized as complete people. My task, in the humanities, is to provide windows into alternate iterations of our shared human experience. When not at WIHI, I can be found playing soccer, cooking, reading a mystery, or helping my wife (a law student at UofM) study.

I received my Reading Specialist M.Ed from the University of Tennessee ar Chattanooga and my B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Michigan. Since 2010, I've had the pleasure of teaching elementary, middle, and high school courses at both public and private schools in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
