Back to School Information:
Dear WIMA and WIHI Families,
We welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year at WIMA and WIHI!
We know that you are preparing as a family for the start of the year, just like we are in the building to provide a supportive and safe start to the year for all of our students and families. To make this first week of school and beyond a success, please read the following message with important information about the launch of our school year.
We hope you’ll take time to familiarize yourself with this information and complete any necessary forms prior to our orientation next week. Within this message you will find information on the following back to school structures, health and safety practices and supports: COVID Health and Safety Planning, Student supply lists, drop off and pick up information, busing, before and after care information, lockers, departure and arrival process when school is in session, breakfast and lunch information, COVID health and safety planning, and reminders for Orientation and Technology.
We anticipate this year will be different from last year in some ways (in-person, high vaccination rates at school, more data about effective mitigation strategies) and similar in some ways (uncertainty, anxiety and concern about COVID cases). We ask for your ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate this school year during a prolonged pandemic. We are committed to continuing to prioritize health and safety, partner with the WCHD, and adapt and communicate all updates with you.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing new students on August 25th (orientation) and all students on our first day of school (August 26th). Here is the bell schedule (8:25 am - 3:15 pm) and school calendar for your reference.
Ms. Do and Ms. Garcia
1.) COVID HEALTH AND SAFETY PLANNING
We realize the rising cases of COVID in Washtenaw county are rising and causing concern for many of us. At this time, all districts in Washtenaw and surrounding counties are planning a full in-person return to school and we plan to do the same. In addition to the return to school safety plan below, which includes required masks for all indoors and weekly antigen testing, we are also including our plan for when/if a student or staff tests positive for COVID. Please read and complete the survey below by August 26th and let us know if you have any questions. Also, please get vaccinated if you have not yet done so. Our community is depending on everyone to do their part to keep us safe from COVID.
2021-2022 PLAN FOR IN PERSON LEARNING

Free onsite COVID testing (antigen)
Cleaning and disinfecting

2.) STUDENT SURVEY
Please take 2 minutes to complete this important survey to allow us to plan for a safe return to in-person learning. This information will remain confidential and helps us to determine action steps for students based on potential covid cases.
3) WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID?
All students are required to report positive covid cases immediately by emailing Ms. Do (email@example.com) or Ms. Garcia (JGarcia@wihi.org) and/or calling the school at 734-994-8145.
Once we are notified of a positive or potential covid case by students, family, or the health department, the following steps are taken:
4.) EXTRA SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
5.) COVID ANTIGEN TESTING ON SITE
As part of our safety plan to support our students and staff our school has partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services MI Safe Schools Testing Program to offer free rapid antigen testing to any staff or students who wish to participate. They will have the opportunity to receive a weekly COVID-19 test to provide an extra measure of safety while working and learning in person.
Testing will occur every other Friday during blocks 1, 2, 4 and after school beginning the week of September 10th. We ask that all of our families complete an electronic permission form for their student to participate in this option upon request or need. Students will complete a form each time they test for consent and state reporting. We will also have an antigen clinic during Student Orientation on August 25th between 1-4 pm in the cafeteria. No appointment is required.
Please take a moment to review our letter explaining the testing and complete the permission slip for antigen testing. We will follow up with weekly sign-ups for testing for students and families through Dean Emails.

6.) SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS QUARANTINING OR HOME WITH ANY SYMPTOMS
We expect all students who have any symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, etc.) to stay home and learn remotely. We encourage prioritizing health and wellbeing for our entire community. Students will not be penalized for staying home to learn remotely when sick. Here is guidance for what to do if you are sick or potentially exposed to COVID.
Students will learn remotely asynchronously (not live) via Google classroom daily posts and a support teacher will contact students to provide support and guidance via zoom each remote learning day.
