Mr. William Garcia - Department Chair, World Literature, IB Literature 1 & 2
Howdy. I am a native Texan, recently transplanted to Ann Arbor while my wife pursues a PhD at the University of Michigan. I hold a BS in Radio-TV-Film Production from the University of Texas and a Master of Arts in English Literature from the Bread Loaf School of English. I have taught all levels of AP English, as well as classes for the Intentional Cambridge IGCSE English exam and the British A-Level exams. When not teaching, I keep busy chauffeuring my children about town, watching strange movies and writing strange screenplays. I love to travel, and I have toured 27 counties so far, with the hopes of hitting 100 before I am done.
Ms. Kyrsten Persells - World Literature, American Literature, IB Literature 2, and Enrichment Coordinator
I studied at the University of Michigan, where I got my BA in secondary education with a major in English and a minor in Earth/space science. I have worn many hats at WIHI, including Head Graduate Assistant, Admissions and Enrollment Coordinator, and Enrichment Coordinator. In every course I teach, I try to inspire my students to be open-minded and caring. I feel blessed to be working in such a collaborative and student-centered environment!
Ms. Alison Rieth - American Literature and IB Literature 1
Ms. Rieth earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and her Master's degree from the University of Colorado. She has over 6 years of teaching experience from Southfield and Tecumseh, Michigan and Aurora, Colorado, where she served as an English teacher and literacy teacher. She already knows many of our students from her work with Wolverine Pathways and is skilled in formative feedback strategies.
Mr. Andre Harding - Communications, World Literature, and Forensics Coach
Mr. Harding is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and comes to us with over 15 years of teaching experience in poetry, speech, and literature. Mr. Harding enjoys coaching students athletically and mentally. He is skilled and committed to building positive relationships with students and staff and is excited to return to WIHI, formerly East Middle School, which inspired him to become a teacher!
