The annoyance of fake scholarship programs is real! Just today, our office received a mailing encouraging WIHI students to send a scholarship application and $10 fee to an official-looking address. Mr. Boshoven already knew that this particular "program" is a scam, and he is helping to spread the word.
Now is a good time for seniors and their families to review a basic list of "DOs" and "DON'Ts" for scholarships, like the one published by the Federal Trade Commission. Remember, scholarship applications and search services should be free, and an offer that seems too good to be true (such as "Guaranteed Scholarship or Your Money Back!") probably is!
